The Coyote Camp Axe is a compact 12-ounce camping hatchet with a steel cutting head, rear pick, rope cutter, and rosewood handle, designed for chopping kindling and preparing firewood at camp.
I was setting up camp in the Northwest Territories when I discovered the firewood had frozen harder than a banker’s heart. The sun was dropping fast, the temperature was headed the wrong direction, and my local guide was watching me with the sort of expression usually reserved for men who’d packed the wrong boots.
I pulled out my Coyote Camp Axe, set a stubborn old log on the chopping block, and gave it a proper swing.
Crack! Split clean down the middle.
The guide raised an eyebrow. I set another log on the block, split that one too, and stacked the kindling beside the fire.
After a while, he wandered over, picked up the axe, and examined the blade.
„Not bad for a little fellow,“ he said.
I wasn’t entirely sure whether he meant the axe or me. Figured it was best not to ask.
